Dropkick – Homeward | Scottish Power Pop / Alt-Country | BBI-003
Dropkick are a power pop and alt-country band from the East Coast of Scotland, formed by brothers Andrew and Alastair Taylor alongside Ian Grier. With over a decade of critically acclaimed releases, Dropkick have earned comparisons to Teenage Fanclub, The Jayhawks, Wilco, and The Pernice Brothers—while carving out a distinctive sound entirely their own.
Homeward (2014) is a multi-layered collection of pure pop songs, blending pedal steel-laced ballads with baroque, keyboard-rich arrangements and lush vocal harmonies. From the sun-dappled opener "Come Home" to the hallucinogenic "Halfway Round Again" (featuring a Strawberry Fields-esque coda), and the aching, organ-drenched "Jump Start," the album showcases Scottish indie pop songwriting at its finest.
The closing track "Carry Me Home"—built on acoustic guitar, piano, and a lonesome pedal steel—brings the album to a sunset-like conclusion.
